Join us for an intimate wine and cheese reception for the Artist. Peter will talk about his creative process in his current work.  He will share his thoughts on where he finds inspiration and his artistic point of view.  The artist's pottery will be for sale during the reception.

Demonstrations in the morning and hands on glazing in the afternoon.  Limited space available to allow for hands on glazing.

About the Artist

Peter's home and studio are located in central Denver, Colorado.  Working full-time, he produces six bodies of work a year.  Each body of work offers him the opportunity to explore new ideas and refine existing ones.  He is intrigued by the marriage of form and decoration. In striving to integrate these in each pot, he has the opportunity to create work that is both timeless and modern.

He works with stoneware.  His pots are thrown, thrown and altered, or hand-built.  To achieve visual depth in his patterns, he employs five elements.  Four of these - wax resist, latex, dipping and brushwork - are applied to bisque pots.  The pots are then high-fired in a heavy reduction atmosphere with the intent of trapping carbon in the base glaze.  It is trapped carbon that is the fifth and random element.  Each pot is designed to serve a functional purpose ad is compatible with modern appliances.

How to sign up?

We will be offering spots to current studio members on Tuesday, September 6th at 10am.  Non studio members, will be invited to begin signing up on Wednesday, September 7th.  Due to the first day being demonstration only we will have more spaces available for that day than the two day option.  The sign up link will be posted below once we go live with workshop signups.

What is needed?

If you are participating in the demo only day, you will just need a notebook and pen.  Lunch will not be provided, but we will break for lunch and have several lunch spots near the studio.  If you would prefer not to eat out, you may bring a lunch with you.  There will be plenty of space to sit and enjoy your lunch.

If you are participating in both days, bring one or two cone 10 bisque fired pieces to glaze.  The techniques you will learn in this workshop will translate well to a cone six or low fire environment, but since we will be working with Peter's glazes in the workshop, your clay must be a cone 10 clay body.  We will fire finished work in a gas kiln after the workshop.  Please be prepared to let us know the exact name of your clay in order that we may have peace of mind that your pots will not damage the kiln shelves or work of your fellow potters.  Low fire clay will turn into a glaze when fired to cone 10.  You may also bring your pot with you to fire elsewhere if preferred.
