Join us for an intimate wine and cheese reception for the Artist. Fong will talk about his creative process in his current work.  He will share his thoughts on where he finds inspiration and his artistic point of view.  The artist's pottery will be for sale during the reception.

These two days will be hands on learning wheel techniques that Fong uses in his studio practice.  We will be learning how he makes his best seller Teapot.

Our max for this day is 14 hands on participants.

About the Artist
Singapore-born, American-educated studio potter residing in Louisville, Kentucky USA.

My diminutive teapots are my core signature pieces; though, of late, I’ve dedicated myself to rounds of new exploration. Vessels of interest are teacups, mugs, and as Dr. Lagerstrom described ‘eccentrically beautiful’ bowls.  In concert, I’ve embarked on extensive glaze testing to develop mixtures capable of capturing the dynamic flows that occur within the kiln.  My elusive goal is to capture time! They are both static and dynamic, in short: “Dwippy!”

I want my audience to acquire and use these new explorations and to embrace their senses.  My quest to revisit my utilitarian beginnings has allowed me to circle back into the practice, craft, and imagination of studio clay.

I’m also a teacher having taught at both university level and in workshops throughout the world.  My work has received numerous awards at The Smithsonian Craft Show, The Philadelphia Museum of Art and Craft Show and at The American Craft Exposition.

How to sign up?

We will be offering spots to current studio members on Sunday, August 25th at 1pm.  Non-studio members will be invited to begin signing up after 2pm. The sign up links will be posted at the bottom of this page once we go live with workshop signups. We will have two types of signups available. You only need to select one. One will give you the opportunity to view the demonstrations and the 2nd option is for demonstrations plus two hands on learning days, both options are packed with information and learning opportunity.

What is needed?

If you are participating in the demo only day, you will just need a notebook and pen.  Lunch will not be provided, but we will break for lunch and have several lunch spots near the studio.  If you would prefer not to eat out, you may bring a lunch with you.  There will be plenty of space to sit and enjoy your lunch.

If you are participating in hands on learning, you are welcome to use our studio reclaim clay at no additional cost.  Fong will be working in porcelain. If you would like to do the same, you will need to purchase clay. We will be hosting  and if you choose to use the porcelain clay he uses, we will be offering to fire your pots in my cone 10 kiln since it is a cone 10 only clay. If you wish to use a different clay, you may purchase it at the studio on the day of the workshop.  We will have all our studio clays available for purchase.  The techniques you will learn in this workshop will translate well to a cone six or low fire environment as it is wheel focused. You will also, need to plan on bringing any throwing tools you typcially use at the wheel.
